    1) Who we are

inyourroots® is a platform that helps young people (16+) explore their strengths and connect with local opportunities, and helps local employers connect with emerging talent.

    In this policy, \"we\", \"us\" and \"our\" means inyourroots®.

    2) The quick version (what this means for you)

    • We only collect information we need to run the platform and improve it.
    • We do not sell your personal data.
    • You can ask to access, correct, or delete your information.
    • If you are 16–17, we apply extra safeguards.
    • If something feels unclear, email us and we will explain it in plain English.

    3) What we collect

We collect different information depending on whether you are a young person using the platform, a parent/supporter, or an employer/partner.

    a) Information you give us

    For young people (16+):

    • Basic details: name, email address, date of birth (to confirm age), and other contact details you choose to share.
    • Account details: login details and profile information.
    • Your responses: responses to onboarding questions and Strengths Discovery prompts (and other information you choose to share while using the platform).
    • Preferences: opportunity interests, availability, and other preferences you choose to set.

    For employers/partners:

    • Business details: company name, industry, and contact details.
    • Role information: job posts/opportunities and related information submitted by you.

    b) Information we collect automatically

    • Usage data: how you use the website/platform (for example, pages viewed and features used).
    • Device and technical data: IP address, browser type, and similar technical information.

    c) Location information

We may collect approximate location (for example, county) to help show relevant local opportunities. We do not need your full address for this.

    4) How we use your information

    We use your information to:

    1. Run the platform (create accounts, provide features, keep things working).
    2. Personalise your experience (for example, tailoring recommendations, resources, or opportunities).
    3. Support safety and safeguarding (for example, handling reports and keeping the platform safe).
    4. Communicate with you (support messages and important service updates).
    5. Send optional updates (only if you have said yes).
    6. Improve inyourroots® (understanding what is working and what needs improving).

    5) Sharing your information

We only share your information when it is necessary.

    We may share information:

    • With service providers who help us run the platform (for example, hosting, analytics, email delivery). They must protect your data and only use it to provide services to us.
    • With partners where needed to deliver specific programmes or opportunities (we aim to be clear about this at the point it matters).
    • If legally required, or if we need to share information to protect someone from serious harm.

We never sell your personal data.

    6) Your rights (UK GDPR)

You are in control of your information. Depending on your situation, you can ask us to:

    • Provide a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
    • Correct inaccurate information.
    • Delete your information.
    • Restrict or object to certain processing.
    • Provide your data in a portable format.
    • Withdraw consent (where we rely on consent).

    To exercise your rights, email:support@inyourroots.com.

    7) Keeping your data safe

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information (for example, access controls and security practices).

No system is 100% secure, so if you ever think your account has been compromised, contact us as soon as possible.

    8) Cookies

Cookies help the platform work and help us understand what to improve.

    We may use:

    • Essential cookies (needed for the site/platform to function).
    • Analytics cookies (to understand usage and improve).

You can control cookies through browser settings and, where available, our cookie settings tools.

    9) AI and automated tools

Some parts of inyourroots® use automated tools (including AI) to generate recommendations or personalise content.

    This may use:

    • Your responses to onboarding questions/Strengths Discovery prompts.
    • How you use the platform.

We work to make this fair and helpful, but automated outputs are not always perfect. If you have questions about how something was generated, contact us and we will explain what we can.

    10) Age and young people (16+)

The platform is designed for people aged 16 and over.

If you are under 16, please do not use the platform.

If you are 16 or 17, we apply extra safeguards. If we become aware that someone under 16 has provided personal data, we will take steps to delete it and restrict access.

    11) Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date.
